Dana B. Kenyon Company Awarded Contract for Amtrak Maintenance Facility
Jacksonville, Fla. February 22, 2010 — The Dana B. Kenyon Company announced today it was awarded a $25 million dollar contract by Amtrak, the National Railroad Passenger Corporation, for the construction of a maintenance facility located in Hialeah, Fla., near Miami.
The project construction will begin this spring, and will be completed in February 2011.
The project involves the construction of a new building structure to cover work currently performed completely outdoors and will include administrative offices and employee locker rooms. The 58,000 square foot building is 920 feet in length with eight service bays varying from 100 to 140 feet in length. A single track and service trench will run through the building allowing train cars to pass through for maintenance.
“We are honored to have been selected for this project for Amtrak, and we look forward to this new construction partnership. We anticipate a successful venture that Dana B. Kenyon Company and Amtrak will be proud of for many years to come” said President and CEO Matt Kenyon.
The upgrades to the east coast facility will dramatically improve the capacity, efficiency and working conditions of the shops that perform inspections and maintenance of Amtrak’s passenger rail equipment used in long-distance and state-supported corridor services.

SeaGrove Builds Onto the Community of St. Augustine Beach
Real Estate Construction Review Magazine Volume 7, 2008 Edition

St. Augustine Beach, Fla. SeaGrove Condominiums in historic St. Augustine Beach on Anastasia Island is part of SeaGrove, a newly developed, beach-oriented residential and mixed-use neighborhood. The new SeaGrove Condominiums – which is located among the single-family homes, a lake and town center – consists of 10 two-story buildings, each containing four units and attached garages with private entrances for each unit.
Because the surrounding development is mixed-use, it was necessary to produce an architectural design that was cohesive with the business and retail component while still creating a sense of home for the owners. Building colors were painted in festive colors, are in keeping with Old Florida Style, with three distinctive exterior elevations and two floor plans. Unlike typical condominium projects, each building has a slightly different footprint, roofline, siding, exterior color and architectural features.
Constructing the 10 buildings on the site presented a number of challenges. Residents of condominium buildings completed earlier in the project and of nearby single-family homes could not be disturbed, and safety for both construction workers and neighborhood residents was a major concern. To help with this, Dana B. Kenyon Company, the project’s general contractor maintained a strict policy of daily clean-up and securing of the site to ensure the safety of nearby residents and curious passersby.
The Florida First Coast Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors recognized Dana B. Kenyon Company with its Award of Merit for the SeaGrove Condominium project. Bloodgood Sharp Buster (BSB) was the architect on the project.

Ask Rusty White, director of business development for commercial general
contractor Dana B. Kenyon, what makes the company unique, and he will
tell you about its people.
It’s really a company that is staffed with a lot of quality people;
smart people who work very hard to maintain a level of excellence,”
he says. “We work well together, and we’re all proud to be
a part of the company.”
White says Dana B. Kenyon has developed a culture of ethics and responsibility,
stressing the importance of treating clients and each other with integrity.
“We put together every presentation and proposal we send out, “he
notes. “It’s important here, and we try to live by it.”
This third-generation Jacksonville, Fla., company was founded in 1983
by the late Dana Kenyon and his son and current CEO Matt Kenyon. White
says the company is one of the top construction companies in northeast
Florida.
It works throughout the state, and all along the Eastern Seaboard. He
estimates between 75 and 85 percent of the company’s work is done
within the state of Florida.
Variety of Projects
Dana B. Kenyon has completed numerous auto dealerships and office buildings
as well as retail, senior living and assisted living projects.
It has also worked with CSX Railroad on several jobs. “We’re
a diverse general contractor, and that’s by design,” White
says. “We don’t try to go after just one market and then suffer
through the ups and downs of a particular market, whether it’s commercial,
offices, housing or whatever. This way, we’ve always got other areas
of the market that will be up when some areas are down.”
Company Mission
Dana B. Kenyon says its mission is to build value for its clients, the
company and its people. “We build this kind of enduring value by
providing quality services through competency, fairness and integrity,
using teamwork and a commitment to paying complete attention to our client’s
needs,” the company emphasizes. “We will be the best in the
business. In order to achieve our remarkable results we set high standards
of excellence for ourselves and retain competent, qualified and high-performing
individuals to meet these objectives.
“Every member of the Dana B. Kenyon team is committed to being the
best in the business.”

"Best Place to Work".
For company, building rapport with people is important
The Business Journal of Jacksonville - April 28, 2006
by Jeff Brooks.
JACKSONVILLE -- When it comes to the highly competitive general contracting industry, paying attention to detail can be the difference between a successful business and one filing bankruptcy.
At Dana B. Kenyon Co., it's not only the details of a project but also the people doing the work that make the company one of the most respected in Northeast Florida.
"I think the biggest thing is we care about our people," President and CEO Matthew Kenyon said. "I think we show that through our actions, through our commitment to them."
Founded nearly a quarter-century ago by Dana B. Kenyon, the company has built projects totaling more than 4 million square feet in a dozen states. A third-generation general contractor, the firm has $80 million in commercial, institutional, residential, automotive and industrial projects under construction.
Janet Masterson, Kenyon's director of human resources and corporate secretary/treasurer, has been with the company for almost 19 years and she attributes its growth to the management style.
"Before I came here I worked for five, six other companies," Masterson said. "I know a lot of companies go to great lengths to make it seem that there's a family atmosphere, but it's an effort. Here it starts from the top."
"The people are all very friendly and easy to work with," said Debbie Whittier, Kenyon's office manager for the past six years. "Everybody works as a team."
A family environment is just one aspect of Kenyon's philosophy.
"It's pretty human nature, everybody wants an 'attaboy,' " Kenyon said. "You can dangle the carrot all day long, but a couple of 'attaboys' at the right time have much more impact and they don't cost a thing."
Masterson and Kenyon said the employees have responded.
"Nobody wants to work for a company they're not proud of," said Masterson
